JOB SUMMARY

Are you a competent MIG welder, possessing the skills necessary to weld a variety of material thicknesses, various joint configurations, and positions? Are you familiar with common fabrication practices such as grinding, sheet metal bending, squaring of structures, fitting parts, reading weld schematics? Then you should apply today!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reference blueprint and confers with Lead person to determine job requirements.
  • Gather necessary materials and performs layout per specifications.
  • Set up welding machine and adjusts settings.
  • Operate welding gun to weld steel, aluminum, etc., pieces together.
  • Visually examine welds for adherence to quality standards; rewelds defective joints and removes surplus slag, flux, and spatter using a brush, pad, buffer, and/or grinder.
  • Operate cutting torch and manual plasma cutter as needed.
  • Apply weld stencil and notifies Lead person or Inspector when product is ready for inspection.
  • Perform ongoing housekeeping duties to keep work area clear of scrap and debris.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Equipment Used: Welding machine, cutting torch, brush, pad, buffer, grinder, overhead crane, ratchet straps, rubber hammer, tape measure. They will also be responsible for running various machinery such as brake press, punch press, control press, shear, and cut off saw.
  • Certificates: Must have or achieve welding certification.  Ability to obtain forklift certification.
  • Skills:  Able to read tape measure and blueprints.  Able to properly operate welding equipment.  Must be trained in applicable SOPs and work instructions.
  • Education/Experience:  At least 1 year of welding experience or training.
  • Language Skills:  Able to comprehend somewhat complex instructions.  Able to effectively communicate information to coworkers. Bilingual in Spanish/English is a plus.
  • Attendance Requirement:  Requires regular attendance during scheduled shift and overtime and weekends as required.
  • Travel Requirement:  None
  • Physical Demands:  Manufacturing/welding position; spends more than 2/3 of time standing/ kneeling/crouching/reaching. Generally, requires clear vision at close distances (for reading prints/instructions and marking reference points.)

*Work Environment: Industrial manufacturing environment with loud noise level. Facility is enclosed and is ventilated and heated but not air-conditioned. Smoke from welding processes is removed by direct airflow from fans. More than 2/3 of time is spent near moving mechanical parts, in heat/humidity.  Safety toe shoes, safety eyewear, and hearing protection required. Gloves, face-shield, welding helmet, and other PPE as needed.
